Mission/Philosophy

NEM Hunters & Jumpers’ mission is to provide a fun yet challenging program to develop riders how to “really” ride, be independent thinkers and build a partnership with their horse. These elements are imperative for a successful riding program. For young horses, our goal is to establish a good solid foundation on the ground, as well as, on the horse. How the horse is started or trained determines its attitude and success down the road. We also find this holds true for most riders.

Nan Martin: Owner/Trainer/Rider
Background and Experience in the Business

Nan started riding at the age of 5 at a local riding school in NJ, several miles from the United States Equestrian Team (USET). By age 8, she was involved with 4-H and Pony Club, and showing locally with her young POA pony. As a junior rider, she showed the upper level equitation (Medal/Maclay) and Junior Hunters primarily on the “A” circuit, under the direction of Marion Lewis and Karen Peterson.

After obtaining her BA and MS Degrees in Environmental Science/Engineering, Nan worked full time as an environmental consultant developing many of the management, sales and leadership skills she uses in her business. During this time, she also went back to training, concentrating on
developing and showing young sale horses as an amateur rider under the guidance of dressage and hunter/jumper trainers throughout the NY-CT area.

In Arizona, Nan started her business, NEM Hunters and Jumpers from the ground up. She continued to work with young horses and assisted several local breeders in training and backing foals on upward for showing and sales. She developed and coached many accomplished “A” circuit riders and horses that were consistently in the ribbons and awarded local and regional year end awards. She also conducted clinics and judged unrecognized shows for the local 4-H and Pony Club.

Over the years Nan has continued her education by attending clinics with great coaches such as George Morris and Frank Chapot and various seminars on breeding, judging, natural horsemanship and farm management. She also holds a personal training certification, and understands the relationship between the rider’s form, fitness and performance.

Nan moved to Wellington, Florida in January of 2006 to be
closer to her family and friends. She is a member of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce and sits on the Chamber's Equestrian Committee.

Barn Mascot

Lexie or Leximal: 9yo, Whippet, Fawn, Female, Harley and Horse Lover, guards the tack room.

The Whippet is a medium-sized member of the sighthound family, and is very similar in appearance to the Greyhound, only smaller. Originally bred by working class people in England to provide rabbits for the table and racing sport on the weekends, the Whippet is now one of the most stylish of breeds--equally at home gracing the couch with his elegant long lines or running at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour!

Lexie prefers lounging and sleeping more than anything else! She loves being at the farm and she hates being home alone.
